We are starting with a $0 budget and want to use found and recyled material for the project. Here we are playing with the effects of light with plastic.
from meeting one/march workshop.

URBAN VISION QUEST
“URBAN VISION QUEST”/ FLATIRON BUILDING PROJECT
Objectives & Intentions: a team of 6 members of the artist collective OpeningsNY to organize & work on the Flat Iron Building Prow Art Space project on 23rd St. between Broadway and 5th ave in New York City.
Collaborating Aritists: Meg Graham , Sherry Aliberti, Joey Kilrain,  Anthony Santella. Wen-Chi Chen and Illiyan Ivanov
Project statement: Urban Vision Quest is about what the artist and the viewer experience while working on and viewing art. What is it that an artist goes though when he or she is making art? Where does that vision come from? The concept behind this work is to create the possibility to bring viewer into that same creative space when viewing the artwork. And in fact each group viewer/creator is experiencing their own VISION QUEST in the process.
About the project: One of the concepts of this project is to have the environment visually plugging into the nature of the site, the Flat Iron Building Prow Art Space Gallery. Where the collaborating artists create a central point or hot spot of that Aha moment —realized. This “Vision” comes during this quest. In channeling the city’s energies we could make this spot a moment where the viewers get to see and feel all that and experience and their own aha’s or vision. The materials used to create the project will start from found objects and a budget of $0 dollars. (The actual budget might go to transporting the piece, and final touches in regards to installation.) Each team member is responsible for building some aspect of the environment. This is an opportunity to play to your strengths as an artist but requires you to leap into another material and working together as a collaborative.
Free-association brought out the conceptualizing on this project by Meg Graham.
It focused on these ideas:
Flow, Electricity
Wave, creative
Transcending.
Growth, glow
Vision, trance state
Artist, ecstatic vision.
Soul, dream, parallel universe
Dance, form of prayer
Eye of the needle, tip of the building.
Heaven, peace, beauty.
Vision quest.
“Urban Vision Quest”
Looking forward to having fun and creating a vision together.
Cheers,
Meg, Sherry, Anthony, Joey and Wen.
